Description

We begin our hike at the reconstructed Limes tower. We will encounter the Limes World Heritage Site more often, as we follow the 2,000-year-old border of Rome.A little later we reach the old railway line on which the ceramics produced here were once transported. Just a few meters away there is a historic round oven that was used to fire ceramics. (Signposted). Now we head onto the Limes path. Reconstructed palisades show us the way. Just a few hundred meters further we reach a real UNESCO World Heritage site - the Limes fort Hillscheid. Our path now leads through forests down into the Kalter Bach valley. The Hüttenmühle invites you to take a break. We continue to follow the small mountain stream. At the Kuckucksberg we begin our ascent to the Pedelhütte. Now we go back down into the Feisternachtbach valley with the Bembermühle, whose restaurant invites you to stop off on various days of the week. The last climb leads back to the starting point.

Directions

We begin our hike around Hillscheid at the reconstructed Limes tower with the Roman kitchen garden. We will encounter the Limes World Heritage Site more often on our route, as we are following the 2,000-year-old border of Rome. After a short section through Hillscheid we reach the old railway line. This is where the famous pottery from the Kannenbäckerland was transported by rail. Just a few meters away there is a historic round oven in which the jugs and vessels were once fired (signposted). From the old railway line we head along the Limes path. Reconstructed palisades show us the way to the fire brigade grill hut. Just a few hundred meters further on we reach a real UNESCO World Heritage site - the Limes fort in Hillscheid.Through forests we now find our well-marked path down into the Kalter-Bach valley. The Hüttenmühle restaurant invites you to take a break here. We follow the small mountain stream further through its narrow valley. Our route then branches off at Kuckucksberg and we begin our moderate ascent to the Pedel with the Pedelhütte. After a short break at the small shelter, we head back down, this time into the Feisternachtbachtal. Here we come across the Bembermühle, whose restaurant invites you to stop off on various days of the week. The last ascent now leads across open meadows back to our starting point at the Limesturm in Hillscheid.
