Description

From Nauort, the route leads down into the Brexbach valley. The typical natural landscape of a low mountain stream and the rugged rocky cliffs quickly immerse us in another world, far from civilization. Only rarely do service vehicles drive along the former railway line. Otherwise, there are no modern roads down here for many kilometers. From the Kaiserstuhl, a striking rocky cliff high above the stream, we get a view of the Brexbach valley. Just a few minutes' walk further on, we look down from the Grenzau castle ruins to the medieval town of the same name. From Alsbach and Nauort, we can see far into the distance. The ridge gives us the opportunity to let our gaze wander as far as the Eifel and Lake Laach.

Directions

We start our hike in the center of Nauort. On weekdays you can also buy food here. At weekends there is also a bakery here.We reach the Nauort grill hut via quiet local roads. Just a few meters further on, the descent begins along a narrow path down into the Brexbach valley. At the Nauorter Flößchen, a small tributary of the Brex, we hike further down the valley along a farm track to the former Nauort train station. Here we come across the wild and romantic Brexbach. The hiking trail leads up through the partially shoulder-like valley along forest paths and narrow paths. The old railway line here is a testament to the times when trains still whistled through the valley. Be careful - sometimes service trains still run along the line.At the upper reaches of the Brexbach, a narrow bridge leads over the stream. This is where the ascent to the Kaiserstuhl begins. From the rugged rocky cliff we have a view of the valley rich in nature. We now follow narrow paths over the rocky hill to Grenzau Castle. Here we enjoy another view, this time over the medieval-looking Grenzau. We continue our hike over the hill and are rewarded with views of the entire region at Alsbach. We return to our starting point in the center of Nauort through the Nauorter Hochwald.
